NC Historical Records Online

David McCorkle is President and founder of North Carolina Historical Records Online (NCHRO), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation registered in the State of North Carolina. Its mission is to provide public online access to images of original records and other relevant information useful to researching North Carolina history and genealogy. NCHRO is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors with no paid staff.  For more information, please visit http://nchistoricalrecords.org .

NCHRO’s main project is the free website http://nclandgrants.com . It contains searchable information for all 200,000+ land grants issued in North Carolina from 1663-1960.  For all issued grants, high quality digital images of the land description found in the Patent Books are available.  For most counties, high quality digital images of documents associated with each grant are available.  All counties should have these images online by August 2022.

Almost 100,000 images on the website cannot be viewed anywhere else except in person at the State Archives of North Carolina. These include as images of all pages of all land grant Patent Books, images of all Lord Granville Grant deeds and associated documents, and images of county land entry records sent to the state from 1778-1795. In late 2021 a set of 1,400 land grant records that were not in any online database were added to the website.
